Practice Manager

Kate Davenport joined as Practice Manager in February 2011. She has overall responsibility for all areas of administration, and will lead the practical aspects of the move to the new surgery next year. Kate trained as a librarian, and worked for two London boroughs before moving to Bristol in 2001 as Head of Libraries.
Her new job sounds very different from her past work, but Kate explains the similarities: “As a manager of libraries, I was responsible for community facilities providing a direct service to the public. The key parts of this job are not much different: I manage a great team of staff, I look after the budgets, I liaise with the community and with users of the surgery, I make sure the building is well looked after. The context is different, but I’m learning fast!”
While Head of Libraries in Bristol, Kate oversaw the rebuilding or full refurbishment of eleven libraries, and has left two further building projects in progress. The move to the new surgery is therefore something that she is well able to manage.
Kate lives in Chew Magna and has two children at Chew Valley School. She is looking forward to working more closely with the local communities, including reviving the Patient Participation Group.
