We operate a Duty
Doctor Triage system. Each day one
of the GPs is the designated duty
doctor, and is responsible for
resolving all urgent medical
problems. You speak to the doctor by
telephone first and if necessary
they will then give you an urgent
appointment.
1. You call us
If you feel you need urgent medical
advice or treatment and this can not
wait for the next bookable
appointment please telephone the
surgery with your name and a contact
telephone number. The receptionist
will also ask you for a brief
explanation of the problem – this is
so that the doctor has prior
knowledge of your situation and can
also prioritise the most urgent
calls first. If you feel
uncomfortable and do not want to
give a reason to the receptionist,
that is entirely up to you.
2. The Duty Doctor calls you back
The duty doctor will call you back
(usually within an hour) and discuss
your problem with you. If the matter
can not be resolved over the phone,
they will give you an appointment
that morning or afternoon, depending
on when you called. This appointment
may be with themselves, a member of
our nursing team, or another of the
GPs.
Please avoid coming down to the
surgery without an appointment.
We strongly advise that you phone
first to speak to the duty doctor in
order to try to get an urgent
appointment. Attending without prior
notice can result in having to wait
long periods before being seen.
